Our partner trinamiX presents new recycling applications at Greener Manufacturing Show in Cologne.

Textiles: fourth-highest impact on climate change

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), around 17 million tons of textiles were generated in 2018. If you’re thinking that number is huge, consider this fact: McKinsey & Co. estimates that 100 billion garments are made each year. That’s a lot of clothes!

Same in Europe: The European consumption of textiles has the fourth-highest impact on the environment and climate change, after food, housing and mobility. It is the third sector for higher use of water and land use, and fifth for the use of primary raw materials and greenhouse gas emissions. Hence, the EU created a strategy for sustainable and circular textiles.

trinamiX launches solutions for Textile Recycling & Carpet Recycling

trinamiX, known for its easy-to-use NIR solutions, is taking on this challenge and is therefore expanding its portable handheld spectrometer to include important new applications for textile recycling and carpet recycling. At the Greener Manufacturing Show in Cologne, the applications “Textiles” and “Carpets” will be presented:

  • With the textiles application, a wide range of materials can be determined: Acrylic, Cotton, Nylon, PTT, Polyester, Polypropylene, Silk, Sisal, Viscose and Wool. In addition, it is possible to determine the following blends: Acrylic-based, Cotton-based, Nylon-based, Polyester-based, Silk-based and Wool-based blends.
  • The application carpet recognises Nylon (Nylon 6 / 6.6), PAN, PET, PP, PTT as well as wool.
